The following is a brief history of Route 66 in America: HISTORY OF ROUTE 66: Route 66 (also known as U.S. Route 66, The Main Street of America, The Mother Road or Will Rogers Highway[1]) is a highway in the United States. As one of the national roads, Route 66 was inaugurated on November 11, 1926, although the signboard only appeared a year later.[2] Originally came from one of the roads in Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, before ending in Los Angeles to be precise on Santa Monica Beach with a total length of 3,940 km. Route 66 was officially decommissioned (meaning it was removed from the United States Highway System) starting June 27, 1985[4] after it was decided that it was no longer relevant and replaced by the Interstate Highway System. The section of the road that passes through Illinois, New Mexico, and Arizona has been designated a National Scenic Byway under the name “Historic Route 66“.
