There he raise and trained racing horses and grew but didn't train coffee plants. While growing up in British East Africa, that eventually the independent country of Kenya, Beryl grew to love Africa. She came to have harsh views on the colonialism of Africa imposed by European countries, including England. At age 17 she was a horse trainer.
