Sinot Yacht Design & Architecture is in the news with this design for several reasons. First it’s radical new 112-meter superyacht concept called AQUA is powered by fuel cell technology that on yachts means hydrogen-powered. This is not a new power source. In fact, when I worked at Blohm Voss and we owned the HDW shipyards that built Paul Allen’s Octopus for Lurssen, that shipyard was building fuel-cell powered submarines for the German navy. This combustion-free power generation process creates electricity that is virtually absent of pollutants. But the second reason this vessel is in the news is that some nitwit announced that Bill Gates had put in an order for this vessel to be built by Oceanco in Holland, and that turned out to be just a rumor. Aqua has been developed for the forward-thinking owner with a futuristic design that features a 360-degree viewing capsule and wheelhouse up top. On the the bow is an area they call the Aqua room.
