STREAMING ON SPOTIFY NOW!▶ Picture, if you will: Loid, Yor, and Anya hop into a time machine and end up in 1982 where they run (literally) into Point Lobo, a cheap Tatsuro Yamashita knock-off trying to break into the City Pop scene. He decides to take their theme “Comedy” / “Kigeki” by Gen Hoshino (part 1 ending song) and reimagine it as a more contemporary (for 1982!) sound. Point Lobo begins to assemble a motley team of musical specialists for his mission: ✯ NICK CAMPBELL DESTROYS✯ - a fearsome low end expert who wields the electric bass, known for his work with Scary Pockets ✯ RINA HOSHINO✯ - actress, voiceover artist, singer and the voice of Mewtwo in Detective Pikachu (she performed both the chorus AND the intro voiceover on this song!) ✯ HITOMI OBA✯ - UCLA Contemporary Jazz Ensemble director, professor, composer and controller of immense saxophone power ✯ YOHEI SHIKANO✯ - singer/songwriter/producer and keeper of the secret texts of Tatsuro singing techniques Along with the help of ✯ XUAN NGUYEN✯ , a master of disguises and hairstyles (and an amazing singer/songwriter in her own right), and ✯ KENNETH PULGAR-VIDAL✯ , a master photographer/videographer of discerning eyes, they pulled off the mission without a hitch (minus some sketchy situations involving singing in the middle of the ocean). Video directed by Point Lobo All art & animation by Point Lobo (animated in Blender, composited in After Effects) Much respect and thanks to the artists whose styles inspired this work, including the musicians Tatsuro Yamashita, Junko Yagami, Momoko Kikuchi as well as visual artists Hiroshi Nagai, Patrick Nagel, and Keith Haring. Shout out to Ginger Root whose explorations of bubble-era Japan aesthetics and indie music encouraged me try my own hand at this strangely wonderful genre. And of course big thanks to Gen Hoshino for writing such an incredible song and all the artists at Wit Studio and CloverWorks for delivering such a fun and endearing anime.
