Heavy snowfall has brought chaos to parts of southern Germany : air and rail traffic is blocked in the Bavarian capital Munich. After first suspending flights until noon Saturday (11:00 GMT), Munich airport later said it would be closed . A spokesman said 760 flights were affected. More than 40 centimeters (16 inches) of snow fell overnight from Friday to Saturday, according to weather officials. Authorities asked residents to stay indoors for their safety. The winter weather has also disrupted train services, with rail operator Deutsche Bahn saying that “Munich's main station cannot be served.“ It said travelers should expect flight delays and cancellations across the region, and most buses, streetcars and commuter trains are out of service in Munich. Police in Lower Bavaria said they made 350 weather-related interventions Friday night, leaving five people slightly injured in traffic collisions.
