Some of the fundamental rhythms of the Yoruba peoples in West Africa are based on the rhythmic size 6/8. Having significantly influenced Cuban music, such rhythms as Bembe, Nanigo and Guiro appeared here. The rhythmic pattern played on the cowbell is the basis of this music. The parities played on the Toms and Snare drums are usually played on the Congas. Hi-hat plays the part of the Shekere instrument. This video shows the five main variations of this folk-style rhythm. The next video will show five more variations of Afro-Cuban 6/8 with a funky feel with an accentuated backbeat on the Snare drum.
