from The Brothers Sandole “Modern Music from Philadelphia“ - Fantasy 32-209 [12-inch LP] (1956) Adolph and Dennis Sandole feat.- Art Farmer, Sonny Russo, John LaPorta, Teo Macero, George Barrow, Al Del Governatore, Milt Hinton, Wendell Marshall, Clem DeRosa This was was recorded in 1956 on Fantasy Records and features the jazz compositions of Adolph and Dennis Sandole, both of Philadelphia as well as John Laporta I studied jazz improvisation with Adolph Sandole every Saturday morning for five and one half years in the late 1970s through early 1980s. In the process, we became good friends. One day, Adolphe loaned me a vinyl copy of this album. When I listened to it, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I never heard anything like it. It is so unique, I couldn’t discern influences of other jazz musicians. This music needs to be heard by those who missed it, so here it is.
