An otter has stolen more than £100,000 worth of Koi Carp fish from a luxury hotel. Staff at the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa in Chester were shocked to find the otter had taken at least 50 of the fish, which sell for around £2,000 each. #Otter #KoiCarp #Chester CCTV footage shows the otter sneaking into the four-star hotel's pond area, before snatching the Koi fish and fleeing. The Koi stolen from the two ponds, which are located in the hotel spa's Asian Sensory Garden, were an Amur carp breed, which is also known as Nishikigoi. An electric fence was put in place to prevent herons from catching fish but the otter managed to get past it without staff releasing. Andrew Nelson, director of Nelson Hotels & Inns, who runs the hotel, says he was 'surprised' when he found out the otter was the culprit. He said: “It was definitely a surprise, to say the least to find that an otter was the culprit for our huge loss of fish. “With the fences we have installed previously to protect smaller fish from herons, we didn’t expect any large animals to be able to access the pond areas. “With around £100,000 worth of Koi now lost, we are trying to find a solution to prevent any further loss. “Our colourful carp are not only eye-catching habitants of our garden, who have enjoyed a happy home on our grounds undisturbed for many years but a substantial investment into our venue.“ Subscribe to The Telegraph with our special offer: just £1 for 3 months.
