Director Ivo van Hove (De zaak Makropulos, Iolanta, Der Schatzgräber) is the ideal person to stage this new production. He is bound to do justice to the sultry atmosphere of Salome and probe deep into the human spirit. Following his grand DNO debut in Falstaff, conductor Daniele Gatti is returning with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, of which he is now principal conductor. Malin Byström is making her debut in Amsterdam as Salome, while Doris Soffel (Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Die Frau ohne Schatten and Salome) is singing the role of her cunning mother Herodias. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is regarded by international critics as one of the best orchestras in the world. It is known for its unique sound and stylistic flexibility, and works with the leading composers and conductors in the world. From the 2016/17 season, Daniele Gatti is the orchestra’s principal conductor. The orchestra has its own label, RCO Live.
