Mary Jimenez was born in Peru. After graduating there in architecture, she came to study cinema in Belgium. In 1984, in “Du verbe aimer“, she staged her return to her native country, in search of her memories and the story of her mother. On images of Peru, the city or nature, the voice of Mary Jimenez tells, explains. She also questions her family and loved ones in the images, or the viewer via voiceover. She talks about her childhood, her memory, her mother and their relationship, cinema too, what it represents, for those who make it and those who see it. “Du Verb To Love“ is not a fiction but is not quite a documentary either: the film does not really tell but it does not explain either. It shows a certain reality, a reality experienced and shown in the first person singular.
