VASYARUN is a performance art group based in Russia. Its participants are street kids aged 15-28 who join the collective anonymously. In their performances VASYARUN explores youth, masculinity, street culture, physical education, meditation and acting traditions. The methodology of the project is rooted in ancient practices for awakening inner strength and conjuring self-knowledge. The project is in the state of continuous metamorphosis as the main cast renews every few months. This video documents the initiation of the new members who begin to learn the ropes from their older peers. VASYARUN has been performing at museums and biennales around the world for the last seven years with their latest performance ‘It only seems that way’ taking place at Garage MCA in Moscow.
