Introduction to key principles of the digestive system. A review lecture for clinical students. Learning Objectives: • Describe the following major digestive processes: Motility, Digestion, Absorption • Describe how macromolecules (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids) are processed in the digestive system • List and locate all of the digestive organs • Describe the peritoneum/layers of the abdominopelvic cavity wall • Describe the specific mesentaries of the digestive and accessory organs. What does it mean to be “retroperitoneal”? • Describe the microscopic layers, blood supply and nerve supply of digestive organs
