China launches new Earth observation satellite China on Tuesday launched a new Earth observation satellite, Gaofen-11, which will be mainly used in land resources survey, crop yield estimates, disaster prevention and reduction. The Gaofen-11 was launched on a Long March carrier rocket at 11:00 a.m. (0300 GMT) from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China’s Shanxi Province. It was the 282nd mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.
