From the first 1987 UK pressing of “Clutching at Straws” A1/B1 matrix. The first three tracks from this album (Hotel Hobbies/Warm Wet Circles/That Time of the Night) are all masterpieces IMO. Some hard hitting stuff but great beauty in some of the quieter moments. Brilliant singing, amazing guitar solos and superb keyboards. The three tracks lead into each other. This was the last album Marillion made with orignal lead singer Fish. It’s another concept album (like Misplaced Childhood was). It’s about a character called Torch who is an alcoholic and whose life is in a mess. More info here in the concept section. This is a fantastic album IMO. It has the trademark Marillion hard hitting sections, but also has moments of great subtlety and rare beauty as well. Quite unusual. It features Fish’s “stream of consciousness” style lyrics. I’ll put up more tracks from this album soon. There an interesting interview with Fis
