PM Modi “shocked” as days after historic Iran-Israel Chabahar deal, Prez Raisi dies in chopper crash In a major mishap, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was killed as his helicopter crashed on May 19 near Azerbaijan border. Iranian officials confirmed to Reuters that the mishap claimed lives of Prez Raisi and FM Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. Shortly after the news, India extended its condolences to Iran and the president’s family ‘in the time of sorrow’. Taxing to ‘X’ Indian PM said “Deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic demise of Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Raisi…”, PM Modi further highlighted Iranian President Raisi’s contribution to India-Iran bi-lateral partnership. Notably, India and Iran share a strong commercial, energy, cultural and people-to-people ties. Recently, India on May 13 signed a historic Long-Term Bilateral Contract on Chabahar Port Operation in Iran for ten years. The 10-year long-term lease agreement strengthens bilateral ties between the two countries boosting trust among trading communities
