As a massive Small Faces fan (and all things Mod ) Steve Marriott was an idol of mine from my early teenage years until his sad, tragic death in 1991. Like fans all over the world I followed his career (and Ronnie Lanes) and it saddened and depressed me that they both died virtually penniless , ripped off by people and an industry that should have been grateful for the musical legacy they created , which is as popular today as it ever was , if not more so. As a young Mod in the 1980s when I first discovered the Jam and Paul Weller I embraced the whole Mod scene with my entire being and through them I went on a musical odyssey and discovered the Small Faces , The Who, The Kinks , The Yardbirds etc. and I lost myself in 60s Mod music and never looked back. But the Small Faces have always held a special place in my heart and Tin Soldier is my favourite tune of all time and when I listen to it , it does something to my soul and the world feels right!
