Dedicated to the memory of Dennis and Carl Wilson whose lives changed the world as we know it in a profoundly positive way. Equal dues and respect to their eldest brother Brian Wilson without whose musical & lyrical genius this national treasure wouldn't exist. I was delighted to discover this clip myself back during August of 2013. At that time, the audio track portion was damaged to the point of being inaudible as it did nothing but make a painfully loud high-pitched squeal from beginning to end. Considering “God only knows“ is my most favorite Beach Boys song and this is the only surviving original B&W studio rendition publicly available on YouTube I knew it was my duty to restore it back to full functionality which only took a few minutes to do. As it turned out all that required was simply transcoding it again using the proper audio codec. At which point it came completely back to life! Interestingly, the original B&W 16mm footage filmed by a family member never actually contained ANY audio track whatsoever as was typical of amateur film equipment back during the 1950s and 1960s. But some sharp cookie along the way got the brilliant idea to sync up one of the original studio audio recordings to this 16mm video footage in an effort to make the final result more entertaining which it unarguably does despite the two not always being in 100% perfect sync at all times. That meager shortcoming being why a number of people errantly believe it's lip-synced which simply isn't the case; although realizing the video and audio portions were made on two entirely different occasions and later matched up which isn't easily accomplished. The fact it syncs up as closely as it does is a genuine testament to the extraordinary level of talent, precision and skill the Beach Boys possessed.
