DRAWING THE BOW WITH THE BODY, THE FORWARD PUNCH - by Mihai Cozmei My personal method of shooting (explained briefly in this video), is considered by many mounted archers as “unorthodox“ (and by some foot archers even “completely wrong“). Anyway, the idea of rotating the torso during the drawing (specially for heavy bows), is not something new. The famous English mediaeval dicton, “draw not the bow but INTO the bow“, is pointing to the same thing: the active use of the body weight for making easier the drawing operation. Many traditional archery schools from the Middle East (Tahir, Ishak-ar-Raffa), Korea and China were using an open (or half open) stance in front of the target. Shooting from such a position is possible just with the rotation of the upper body during the drawing.
