A real powerhouse “soft rock“ song with strikingly serious lyrics, along with one hell of a bouncy piano, was this result of a concept by The Who's Pete Townshend to create a band and album featuring the creative work of drummer and singer Speedy Keen (who sings the lead vocal on this song). I was very surprised to find out “Something In The Air“ only reached #37 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on October 26, 1969. I remember this one very well and there was hardly a summer day that year this single was not played by the same station at least six times during the afternoon, let alone again that many times during the evening here in Western New York. Released in May 1969, by July it had quickly peaked at #1 in the UK for three weeks.
