This song is from “I HAVE DREAMED,“ an album Doris Day recorded in 1961 at the age of 37. I found a scratchy copy of it back in the early 70's at a local Goodwill Store. I remember taking it home and washing the album under running water and using an old toothbrush to clean it with dishwashing liquid. I used to play it often, mostly this song and another favorite track, “My Ship.“ A few years ago, the album was released on CD, and I was finally able to hear all the songs without a lot of pops and clicks. Even though I was only 15 years old at the time, I can still remember the first time I heard this song and feeling the hair stand up on the back on my neck. Doris had a way of singing that made you feel as though she was singing only for you. It has been said that Doris' performance of the song moved composer Richard Rodgers so much that he penned a letter to her declaring her version of the number from “The King and I“ to be the best he'd ever heard. I used video excerpts from “Pillow Talk,“ which starred Doris Day and Rock Hudson. I always thought they had great chemistry together and the movie seemed to work well with the song.
