Yoo Nam-Kyu, who was then 18 year-old and ranked 64, became the Champion of 1986 Seoul Asian Games Table Tennis Men's Single on 30 September 1986. At the quarter final, Yoo upset World No. 1 Jiang Jialiang by 3-2 (21-18, 18-21, 8-21, 21-13, 22-20). Especially, in the final game of the match, Yoo trailed Jiang from 9-16 and 14-19. In the final, Yoo beat Hui Jun by 3-0. Hui beat Kim Wan by 3-1 in the semi final. In the men's team final match between Korean and China which held several days ago, Yoo lost all 3 games. What a progress!! In the Asian Games, Yoo got 2 golds (MS, MT), 1 silver (MD), and 1 bronze (XD). He became the MVP of the 1986 Asian Games among about 5,000 athletes.
