‘Arrows vs Armour’ is back and we are shooting medieval war arrows at the top half of an armoured knight using armour and arrows that are correct in every detail. The main film shows exactly what happened to the armour and the arrows. Of course we think of a knight wearing plate armour, but much of his defences made use of mail armour so we need to investigate how this works. Modern made replica mail of the best quality, a quality as good as the medieval mail is prohibitively expensive for our project. We could afford the aventail and the front of the standard collar in this material, but the cost of a shirt was beyond us. So here we set up a comparative test shooting against the best quality hand made mail and a sample of commercially made mail to see how they differ and use the results to help inform our discussions.
