An aurora hunter in Alaska captured the “best aurora” of the season on Sunday, September 15, when the brilliant lights could be seen moving directly over his home in North Pole. Footage recorded by Vincent Ledvina shows the green and pink aurora in the early hours of Sunday. Ledvina can be heard exclaiming, “Crazy!” and “Wowza!” in the video. Ledvina told Storyful the footage was not sped up or timelapsed, but showed the aurora moving in real time. “This was an extremely bright auroral substorm with fast motion and vibrant colors visible to the naked eye,” Ledvina said. “In terms of ranking, this is by far the best aurora of the 2024-25 aurora-chasing season so far, and because of solar maximum and increasing space weather and auroral activity this year, the upcoming aurora chasing season SHOULD be the best we have seen in over two decades,” he added. According to , auroras would be visible as far south as California and Missouri on September 16. #ala
