Mount Parnitha is a densely forested mountain range north of Athens, the highest on the peninsula of Attika, with an elevation of 1413 m and a summit known as Karavola. Much of the mountain is designated a national park, and is a protected habitat for wildfowl, first created in 1961. The summit is located about 30 km north of Athens, while the mountain covers approximately 250 km² of land. Regency Casino Mont Parnes is located near the top of the mountain. The construction of a brand new, modern cable car was included within the framework of the complete renovation project of the Regency Casino Mont Parnes complex, and was undertaken by DOPPELMAYR of Austria -- the largest funicular manufacturer in the world with over 8,000 installations in 5 continents.
