Breaking generational curses is a popular method employed by deliverance ministries - but is it biblical? This is a nuanced topic, as some Old Testament passages outline generational curses. However, several passages in both the Old and New Testaments indicate that each person is responsible only for the consequences of their own sins, and not for their family’s sins. Since this is God’s commandment, why do deliverance ministries teach that we have the power to decree, declare, and break what God has commanded? Why do deliverance ministries give God “permission” to break curses? Dave Jenkins, Dawn Hill and Doreen Virtue exegete applicable Bible passages in context, and Dawn discusses her past as an NAR prophetess involved with deliverance and breaking generational curses.
