Alfred Eric Leslie Satie (Honfleur (Calvados) 17 / 05 / 1866 - París, 01 / 07 / 1925). Gnossienne No. 1 (lent) This is the first Gnossienne by Erik Satie. The six Gnossiene have an equally strange title, suggesting the mysterious world of Minoan Crete, with its palace and labyrinth at Cnossos. The first three of these pieceswere written in 1890. Something of Satie´s eccentrcity is shown in the directions to the performer and the lack of bar-lines. The first Gnossienne includes the instruccions “du bout de la pensèe“ (From the tip of the thought) and finally “Sur la langue“ (on the tip of the tongue).
