Many YouTube videos explain as if those who are good at Tameshigiri/Shizan mat cutting are “samurai masters.” However, that’s a big misunderstanding. Being skilled at Shizan rather proves that you don’t have the skills actually to fight with a katana. So today, Seki sensei, the 22nd headmaster of Asayama Ichiden Ryu with 400 years of history, will explain how mat-cutting skills and actual Kenjutsu skills to fight with katana are completely different. This is the best video for you to fully understand the history of Shizan and the pros and cons of training it. After watching this video, if your image of Shizan has changed, please let us know in the comments. *The content of our videos is based on the teachings of Asayama Ichiden Ryu and personal studies/experience | There is no intention of denying other Ryuha styles, theories, and cultural aspects ▼Join the Online Kobudo Training with Seki Sensei▼ Interested in taking lessons directly from the 22nd headmaster of Kobudo Asayama Ichiden Ryu, Seki sensei?
