In the hometown of singer Shakira in the Colombian Barranquilla, a monument was erected in honor of the performer. The creator of the bronze statue was the artist Yino Marques. The monument references Shakira's 2005 music video for the song Hips Don't Lie. Shakira herself is depicted in a bikini top and a long skirt. At the base of the statue is a plaque that reads: “A heart that composes, hips that don’t lie, an unrivaled talent, a voice that moves the masses, and bare feet that walk for the good of childhood and humanity.” After the opening of the monument, Shakira published a post on social networks in which she thanked her for “an example of the enormous artistic talent of the inhabitants of her homeland.”
