The UK's most famous and busiest accompanying vocal group during the 1950s and 1960s, the Mike Sammes Singers provided vocal backing on countless hit records - although having only one chart entry in their own right - the 1966 HMV single, 'Somewhere My Love'. Mike himself had come up through the ranks of the George Mitchell Choir and the Coronets vocal group before forming his own group. As backing singers Mike and his group appeared on countless popular hits by stars such as Ken Dodd, Tom Jones, Frank Ifield, Engelbert Humperdinck, Helen Shapiro, Cliff Richard, Anthony Newley and Tommy Steele. Here the Mike Sammes Singers take centre stage for an excellent TV performance of Fred Astaire's timeless classic, 'Pick Yourself Up.
