Metallica - Atlas, Rise (Remixed & Remastered)

AI is awesome. By separating out drum stems with AI and carefully setting different bands on a multiband compressor, I was able to restore peaks to the hyper-compressed drums from the original 2016 master- of course, I took the type to scoop some mids out of the guitars too :P To be specific about how I did that, I set compressor bands on the sub bass for the kick, one for snare high mids and one for treble in the kick and snare both. Then I set the compressor thresholds to juuust below the peaks for the kick and snare, and set the compressor ratios to *less than one,* which actually has a “decompression“ effect, making the peaks louder instead of pushing them down to live with the rest of the track like compressors normally do. I'll link a pic of waveform comparisons below: Kick should be much louder and more pronounced, too. enjoy!
