Ihar Komar (Republic of Belarus) - Oἶκοζ (Home) for string quartet 1st International Eduardas Balsys Young Composers Competition final round – finale concert from the Church of st. Catherine (Vilnius st. 30, Vilnius, Lithuania) 23 November 2019 Perfomers: String quartet «ArtVio» - Ingrida Rupaitė (1st violin), Kristijonas Venslovas (2nd violin), Tomas Petrikis (viola) and Povilas Jacunskas (cello) Video: «Home» is about my homeland which has gone through a lot of sorrowful incidents. «Oἶκοζ» means home from Ancient Greek. This word also became the basis for the concept of ecology. In my piece I raise an important environmental nuclear issue. My home is still struggling with the negative consequences of the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. What I see is a forest landscape which would be breezy and pure if on the other hand it wouldn’t be poisoned by some unstoppable and invisible energy.
