BWV59 (16 May 1723) is a short Pentecost cantata, the music of which was later reused by Bach for BWV74. Here the text is sung by soprano and bass in a fine duet. The musical figure on the words `Wer mich liebet’ permeates the whole movement; only towards the end do the two voices sing it together. An accompanied soprano recitative is followed by a chorale with a lot of movement and speed. The cantata ends with a bass aria in which the violin plays an attractive melody which is taken over by the bass.
