Following Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine two years ago, Russia's economy has consistently defied the predictions of doomsayers. Many people had predicted a financial collapse in the spring of 2022, but it never happened. The recession hit the economy, but it wasn't as bad as predicted and ended soon enough. The latest concern was inflation. Prices surged last year, and analysts were concerned they would get out of control. Mr. Putin was also concerned. He asked officials to take growing prices into “special consideration“ in February. But it appears that the Russian economy is once again disproving the pessimists. According to data issued on March 13th, prices increased by 0.7% in February compared to 1.1% at the end of the previous year. Around 7.5% is where the yearly inflation rate is starting to stabilize. Forecasters predict that it will soon drop to just 4%; household expectations for inflation in the future have leveled out. The March 15th presidential election in Russia was scheduled to start after we went to press. There is no doubt about the outcome. Mr. Putin would benefit from these stats if it were a competitive game. The goal of the US and EU's renewed sanctions packages was to undermine the Russian economy. Rather, it has adjusted and is still strong as Vladimir Putin prepares to be reelected to a fourth term as president. #russia #vladimirputin #money #sanction #riches | DISCLAIMER | The Copyright Laws of the United States recognizes a “fair use” of copyrighted content.
