Eliminating Borders between Work and Life A bureaucratic structure for work efficiency A repeated structure of bureaucracy We break free from a bureaucratic system to form a more natural and flexible community environment, bringing together work and life for personal and collaborative work. Offi - Ludens A space to play, an office for playing. “Offi - Ludens“ alludes to “Man The Player“ or “Homo Ludens,“ a book by Johan Huizinga published in 1938. Huizinga suggested that play is not just an element of culture; it is central to and characteristic of culture itself. “Homo ludens“ is the most amazing humanistic discovery since “homo sapiens.“ For man, culture begins with play. “Man, the player,“ shows no distinction between life and play. Many Koreans can be characterized as homo ludens, or “playing humans.“ Heung-Yun Cho, a cultural anthropologist in Hanyang University, stated “Korean traditional play culture does not separate play from work. It is a manifestation of joy from intertwined work and play in their life. Finding the perfect work-life balance does not mean working less but finding meaning and joy in work. “I play, therefore I am.“ In an office where Homo Ludens get together to work, working is just another form of playing. They need an office space that allows them to create their own balance between work and play in a flexible work environment that does not distinguish between the two. A Space to Play, an Office for Playing • 01Nomadic Work Pieces • 02 Carte Blanche • 03 Non-routine Promenade “Offi-Ludens“ create a playful office setting in accordance with the adhocratic system where various types of contact can be made in horizontal relationships rather than vertical division. The unpredictable and irregular work environment allows employees to work dynamically, breaking down the boundaries between work and play and establishing more efficient organizational structure. Issue_1 Nomadic Work Pieces Employees with different specialties come together in different ways to work on various projects. Employees are spread out around multi-level workspaces, which are tailored to different work styles. Flexible relationships and natural divisions of labor are created in this self-governing space. Issue_2 Carte Blanche Complete freedom to act as one wishes or thinks best. Carte Blanche means “blank paper.“ This type of freedom encourages endless possibilities. Employees given carte blanche can respond creatively and actively in any way they choose according to whatever they write on this blank paper. Issue_3 Non-routine Promenade Non-routine collision of continuing experience of daily walk and irregular spaces with serendipity. They can escape boring routine and break away from repetition. to create an endless possibility of events in a unique work environment.
