It was probably invented in 1844 by the Scottish mathematician Hugh Blackburn. And although it was a popular salon amusement in Victorian England, it has been almost completely forgotten until today. This is not surprising, since the devices were usually heavy and unwieldy. An exception is this mini-harmonograph which, thanks to the latest materials such as aluminum and 3D printing, is so light and handy that it is now possible to demonstrate this fascinating technology wherever a table is available.
