An American Airlines flight from Tampa, Florida came to an abrupt halt on the tarmac on Wednesday, when its tires blew out during takeoff. The incident was caught on camera by an onlooker, and footage shows the tires bursting into flames, leaving a plume of smoke behind the aircraft. The plane, having reached a speed of around 150 knots (around 270kph), eventually came to a stop, and was met by fire trucks. The 174 passengers and six crew members aboard were all safely evacuated, and American Airlines told media that there had been no injuries. This incident is just one in a long line of Boeing malfunctions, as the company faces increasing calls for accountability, as well as civil and possible criminal charges, for its role in a growing number of crashes, equipment failures, and safety violations.
