A unique recording of the tango grandmaster Osvaldo Pugliese: “La Yumba“ and “Milonga Para Gardel“. On October 4, 1992, he visited our studio in Hilversum with his Tango Orquestra Típica. It took some time to fit them all in this tiny room, but it was worth the effort. The first composition “La Yumba” is Pugliese’s masterpiece although several of his pieces were successful, “La Yumba” is an example of his school. This piece collected all of Osvaldo’s creativity, and it launched him on the way of becoming the real Pugliese. Osvaldo Pugliese (1905-1995) created a new style of tango music that was beautiful, warm and powerful - the most passionate and intense that tango has ever known. His accentuation together with the dragging effect are unique. Astor Piazzolla publicly admitted that: “Osvaldo Pugliese is musically very important to me because he is part of my training and because of the beautiful memories of his work that I withhold. He marked the 1940s, which was Tango’s golden epoch. All my music has been influenced by his work. What Count Basie did for jazz, Pugliese did for Tango. Count Basie gave his music swing, and Pugliese gave his music the canyengue.
