Russia warned Japan of “serious consequences and retaliatory steps” if Patriot missile systems manufactured under US licence in Japan end up in Ukraine, RIA reported. Envoy Nikolai Nozdrev said Moscow would be watching closely to see where Japanese arms exports ended up after Tokyo softened its export rules in 2023. In Russia’s view, this only escalates the ongoing conflict and leads to an increased number of casualties. Moscow also expressed concerns over Washington purchasing Japanese-made PAC-2/PAC-3 interceptors, with fears of them landing in Ukraine.
