“Long Live the Commune!“ is a French revolutionary song written in 1871 by Eugene Chatelain, a member of the Jacobin faction of the Council of the Commune and the Society of Socialist Republicans, taking the melody from the popular Sans-Culotte song “The Permanent Guillotine.“ After the defeat of the Commune by counter-revolutionary forces in May, “Long Live the Commune!“ remained popular among veterans of the Commune militia and supporters of the ideals of the Communards.
