Milan, ITALY - 1998 European Figure Skating Championships, Ladies’ Free Skate - Maria Butyrskaya of Russia won the Free Skate. Add that to the 5th Placement in the Short Program, and her total Factored Placement is 3.5, which would tie her with teammate Irina Slutskaya and Germany’s Tanja Szewczenko. By virtue of the first tiebreaker, which is the skater with the highest placement in the Free Skate, Maria Butyrskaya would vault up from 5th Place to win the Gold Medal.
