“Auld Lang Syne” is perhaps the best known of all of Robert Burns’ (1759–1796) contributions to the “Scots Musical Museum”, a vast project spearheaded by James Johnson (1750–1811) that was published in six volumes between 1787 and 1803.  Burns collected and adapted many traditional songs for the collection, as well as writing some. Today “Auld Lang Syne” is usually sung to the tune originally paired with “O Can Ye Labor Lea, Young Man” (another of Burns’ contributions to the “Scots Musical Museum”) though B
