A devastating Israeli airstrike killed at least 28 Palestinians and injured over 50 more sheltering at the Rafidah school in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, on Thursday, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society. Hospital officials confirmed the death toll as the rescue efforts continue. The Israeli military said the strike targeted a “terrorist command and control center“ within the school compound and claimed “numerous steps“ were taken to protect civilians. However, the incident has drawn widespread condemnation as another school in Gaza is hit by airstrikes, with many questioning the military's actions. This is the latest in a series of attacks on schools in Gaza. Last month, an Israeli strike on a school near Gaza City killed 22 people, mostly women and children. In August, a strike on a school and mosque in the Al-Tabi’in compound killed more than 90 people. Israel confirmed both strikes, stating they targeted Hamas militants sheltering in these locations.
