During a travel to Syracuse, Melos, a good natured farmer from Messina, accidentally incurs the wrath of the tyrannical king Dionysus. Sentenced to death, Melos pleads with the king asking he first be allowed to first attend his sister's wedding promising to return to have his sentence carried out. Dionysus agrees with a stipulation: that Melos return within three days else another will die in his place. Seline, the court sculptor, who Melos earlier befriends, voluntarily becomes the human collateral. M
