A powerful earthquake which struck off the coast of the Alaskan Peninsula has resulted in a tsunami advisory being issued. The 7.2 magnitude earthquake occurred late on Saturday evening (local time) about 88 kilometres southwest of Sand Point, a city on an island located near the Alaskan mainland. The quake occurred at a depth of and was shallow, according to the United States Geological Survey. Tremors were felt widely throughout the Alaskan Peninsula and its surrounding islands. It caused sirens to sound in the nearby city of Kodiak, and prompted a brief tsunami warning being issued by the National Weather Service. The warning was issued for South Alaska, the Alaska Peninsula and regions of the Pacific close to the tremors. #Earthquake #Tsunami #Alaska #Terremoto
