Watch as violence breaks out at an event to mark St George’s Day in central London on Tuesday 23 April. A group of people pushed past Metropolitan Police officers and “violently forced their way through” as the force tried to contain the group within an allocated area near Whitehall. Footage shows a number of people wearing St George’s flags pushing through a wall of police officers. In a statement on social media, the Met Police said that they believed people planning to attend the rally included “far-right groups and groups linked to football clubs travelling from elsewhere in the UK”. “Regrettably officers are already dealing with disorder,” a later statement, shared just after 2pm alongside the video, read.
