How To Cut the Distance In a Fight Using a Shoulder Roll. Tom Yankello of the  @World Class Boxing Channel  teaches you how to use the shoulder roll and a weave to cut distance. This can be used for your shorter fighters that are fighting a taller fighter. David Tua was great at doing this. One of my former fighter’s, Monty Meza-Clay would roll and weave to cut the distance. You are cutting the distance when a guy is taller than you and he is trying to throw the right hand at you. This is all about knowing your range. If the taller fighter is throwing the right hand, the shorter fighter has to weave, parry or block the punch. But if the shorter fighter puts himself a little further away from the fighter, he can then weave, step in and throw the counterpunch.
