How did Russia break through Kyiv air defense to hit childrens hospital

Russia launched one of its deadliest attacks against Ukraine on July 8, killing over 40 people and injuring almost 200. One of the targets in Kyiv was the Ohkmatdyt hospital, Ukraine’s largest children’s medical center, prompting condemnations from world leaders and pledges of more air defense capabilities to Ukraine. Fabian Hoffmann, a defense expert and doctoral research fellow at the University of Oslo, explains how Russian forces managed to evade advanced air defenses in Kyiv to strike the hospital, whether Moscow has developed a new tactic of air attacks, and why Ukraine needs to be allowed to hit targets deep inside Russia.
