Two puma cubs, believed to be orphaned after their mother was shot by a farmer, were saved in Kalama in the state of Washington and have arrived at Philadelphia Zoo, their new permanent home. The cubs are about 21 weeks old and were cared for by Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife experts before being flown across the country to Philadelphia Zoo. It has been chosen as their new home because of its expertise in caring for this species. The male cub is named Elbroch, in honor of Mark Elbroch, one of the America’s major puma researchers, and the female cub is named Olympia, after the state capital of Washington, where the cubs were rescued.
