(EXTREMELY RARE) This absolutely monumental, captivating, emotionally and rationally balanced recording of concerto no.2 was never issued for public release. Rumor has it, the recording was once listed under an Italian label, EMI, coded CDC 4 79349 2, but no one was really able to prove it's existence. I was super-lucky to stumble upon a pre-recorded TV broadcast at some decades-old internet archive, obviously in a horrific audio-video condition. That was a month before this video is posted, decided to remaster it immediately after. This 1993 performance has undoubtedly earned its place among the pantheon of legendary piano concerti. I hope this remastered version could serve as a bridge, connecting us to the brilliance of the past, appreciate what could possibly be Sokolov's performance of the lifetime. (00:00) I. Allegro non troppo (17:59) II. Allegro appassionato (27:11) III. Andante (39:00) IV. Allegretto grazioso
