In the early 1960s, in his hometown of Cheltenham, Jones attended a local fair where various musical performances were taking place. Amidst the festivities, he stumbled upon an accordion player entertaining the crowd. Curious and always eager to explore different sounds, Jones approached the musician and expressed his interest in trying out the accordion. The musician, amused by Jones's enthusiasm, handed over the instrument, expecting little more than a curious few notes from the aspiring young musician.
